CAR SERVICING – WHAT’S COVERED & WHICH SERVICE DO I NEED?
Most car servicing will fall into three different categories.
Full Service, Interim Service and Oil Service. Different manufactures will refer to these in their own terms, possibly service a or b or 1 or 2 etc.
Most Cars will normally alternate from interim service to full service and back again. There are some manufactures who will recommend an oil service in between the full and interim.
Most of our customers opt to have a Full service one year and an interim the next.
We can if required stick to the manufactures service guides. However, this is fine if you’ve maybe had the car from new and know that all work has been carried out when it should have been. There are also instances when manufactures will reduce servicing costs to make their cars look more attractive. Did you know that there are certain VW models that during their lifetime, if only serviced to VW’s schedule, will never have their rear brake drums removed? That is something we do on every full service to ensure that they are working exactly how they should and that there are no fluid leaks inside the drum.
As a member of The Good Garage Scheme we work off their industry standard check sheet. You can see the difference between a full service, which has the black tick box down the left hand side and the Interim which has fewer blue boxes to tick. Both services include a tyre and brake report, however the rear brakes are only fully checked on the Full service. Any observations or advisories are noted in the comments box and also on your invoice.
All our car services are carried out using the latest diagnostic technology and tools. This allows us to service your car quickly and efficiently.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU FIND A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR DURING A SERVICE?
We’ll make the necessary checks to ensure your car isn’t suffering from any unreasonable wear and tear. Your safety is our first concern. But don’t worry, we won’t set about replacing any parts without your approval.
At Tiddington Garage, we are completely open and transparent about our pricing. Work will be completed as agreed and our invoices will match our initial quoted prices.
Whilst we’re working on your car, we’ll also highlight visible parts that may be nearing the end of their useful life, but don’t pose any issue for the immediate future. This helps you to predict future service costs and avoid any nasty surprises later on down the line.
THERE’S AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS
We understand why car owners can be hesitant when approaching a garage without a known diagnosis for their car’s problem. We’ve heard many stories of escalating diagnosis fees where a mechanic lacks the expertise to find the issue and sets about replacing dozens of parts in a trial and error approach (an expensive approach for the customer).
We propose a more simple approach. We’ll dedicate an hour of your mechanic’s time (much cheaper than a main dealer hourly rate) and full use of our diagnostics tools (matching the tools in a main dealer workshop). If we can find and fix the problem in less than an hour, we’ll only charge you for the time required (plus any agreed costs for parts). If the problem in hand poses a bigger challenge, we’ll give you a ring and talk you through the options. We’ll clearly explain each option and give you our recommendations in plain English.
